Is it so much to ask for a single moment alone with him? She thought, standing there being buttoned into the extravagent dress like a doll. Is it too much to ask? I mean I have to spend the rest of my life with this man that I was taken from the only home I ever knew to marry against my own will..
Or is it just how things are..
Another morning that she awoke in a large room alone crying about the lover that she had to leave back in her old life because it was "disgraceful" to marry someone that didn't have a penny to offer her father as payment for his only daughter.. It was unheard of for a wealthy man's daughter to marry a lowly seamstress with nothing to offer but love.
The ring he gave her was all he could afford.. Simple in design but full of meaning with a sentimental phrase inscribed inside of it.. I Love You... It may have been "cheap" but, dammit it meant the world to her.. She'd never take it off.. not even on her wedding day..
All the while she thought bitterly on the fact that she was sent to America to marry a man she'd never even met.. "He's a doctor," her mother countered "that can offer you more. Not a poor seamstress that can only offer you the life of a beggar. You'll grow to love him. I promise." She smiled half-heartedly.
